Alex Caballero is Florida Bar Board Certified in Marital and Family Law, is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, is listed in The Best Lawyers of America, is named to the 2024 lists of Top 100 Florida and Top 50 Tampa Bay Super Lawyers, and is rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale Hubbell.

After earning a Juris Doctor degree with high honors from Florida State University College of Law, Alex joined the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office where he became a Lead Trial Attorney.  During his five-year tenure as an Assistant State Attorney, Alex tried numerous jury trials—including prosecuting in the Felony Domestic Violence Specialty Division.  In 1999, Alex began devoting his practice 100% to marital and family law.

Alex is actively involved in state and local professional legal organizations in his pursuit of excellence.  He was appointed by Governor Rick Scott to the Judicial Nomination Commission for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit and served as Chair from August 2017 to August 2018. Alex’s term on the Judicial Nomination Commission for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit ended in November 2019, when he was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to the Judicial Nomination Commission for the Second District Court of Appeal for a term that ended July 1, 2022. Gov. DeSantis has reappointed Alex to the Second District Court of Appeal JNC for a four-year term that ends July 1, 2026.

Alex is an active member of The Florida Bar and in 2018 was appointed as a member of the Professional Ethics Committee. He served as a member of The Florida Bar Marital and Family Law Certification Committee for two, three-year terms and chaired the committee from July 2015 to August 2016.  Since 2008, Alex has been an Emeritus Member of The Florida Board of Bar Examiners after his five-year term as a member.  Alex has also chaired and participated in various Florida Bar Grievance Committees in addition to chairing and serving on various Family Law Section committees.

On a local level, Alex recently was sworn in as the 2023-2024 President of the Hillsborough County Bar Association (HCBA). He is a Past Chair of the HCBA Family Law Section and continues to serve on its Executive Council. Prior to this, Alex served one-year terms as Secretary/Treasurer and Chair-Elect.  Alex has also chaired various committees for the Family Law Section including the Long Range Planning Committee, Education/Articles Committee, and the Interdisciplinary Committee.

In addition to all his other achievements, Alex is both an accomplished writer and speaker.  Alex has authored numerous family law articles that have been published in legal publications including HCBA Lawyer magazine, the Florida Bar Journal, and the Florida Bar Family Law Section Commentator.  Alex has spoken on family law, trial advocacy, and ethical issues to various groups including the HCBA and the Florida Bar.
