Sterling Lovelady Recognized for Pro Bono Service

Congratulations to the Bay Area attorneys and organizations that recently were honored with Thirteenth Judicial Circuit 2021 Pro Bono Service Awards. The annual circuit pro bono service awards recognize individuals, law firms and organizations, and attorneys who performed 20 or more hours of pro bono service in 2020, to honor their outstanding contributions to the community. We are very proud of SBCF attorney Sterling Lovelady, who was recognized for pro bono service in the 20-49 hours category. Thank you to Sterling and to all who were honored this year for volunteering your time to make a difference in the lives of low-income Tampa Bay Area residents.

Attorney Sarah Kay Recognized for 2017 Pro Bono Service

Attorney Sarah E. Kay was recently recognized by the Florida Supreme Court for her pro bono legal services in 2017.  Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Labarga wrote Sarah on behalf of the Court saying “We thank you for giving freely and unselfishly of your time and legal talent to represent the poor, the powerless, the defenseless, and the oppressed among us.  Your work helps to fulfill the promise of equal justice to all.”  Click on the link below to read the letter to Sarah from Justice Labarga.  Congratulations, Sarah!

App Available to Assist pro se litigants in Florida Family Law Cases

Navigating Florida’s court system without the guidance of a qualified Florida Family Law Attorney can be daunting.  The Florida Commission on Access to Civil Justice has created a Florida Courts Help App for pro se litigants which, among other things, allows users to complete Florida Supreme Court-approved family law forms, provides links and contact information to help centers for pro se litigants throughout Florida, and has user-friendly instructions on family law procedures in Florida courts.  The App is available at the Apple Store, Google Play, and Amazon App store.  Click on the link below to read an article from The Florida Bar News about the App.  The attorneys of Sessums Black pride themselves on providing superior, personal service to assist their clients in helping them reach their goals by providing high quality legal services.

Attorney Sarah E. Kay recognized for her Pro Bono Work

At the 13th Judicial Circuit Pro Bono Committee Awards Ceremony on April 20, 2017, Attorney Sarah E. Kay was recognized with other attorneys who donated 100+ hours of pro bono legal service in 2016.   As part of the recognition, Sarah was presented with a gold lapel pin as well as a letter from the Supreme Court of Florida which thanked her for “giving freely and unselfishly of [her] time and legal talent to represent the poor, the powerless, the defenseless, and the oppressed among us.”  In the letter, Justice Labarga commented “Your work helps to fulfill the promise of equal justice for all.” Click on the link below to read the letter.  Congratulations, Sarah!

Mothers’ Day Luncheon and Fashion Show

Sessums Black, PA is pleased to be a Red Rose Patron Sponsor for the Mothers’ Day Luncheon and Fashion Show on May 12, 2012 to benefit Brighter Tomorrows. Brighter Tomorrows is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to promote awareness of domestic violence, sponsor educational programs, support organizations directly addressing victims’ needs, and work to eliminate conditions fostering the continued existence of domestic violence.

Spreading Holiday Cheer at the Alpha House

On December 2, 2011, Office Manager Mimi Young and Paralegals Carol Dunlap, Kathy Mull, and Michele Tawzer spread some holiday cheer to Alpha House of Tampa by delivering two Christmas trees and other decorations donated by the attorneys and staff of Sessums Black, PA.  Alpha House is an organization that serves to empower pregnant and parenting women in crisis.

2011 Cup of Hope Tea Party

On November 5, 2011, Office Administrator Mimi S. Young, as Secretary of the Suncoast Chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators, volunteered at the 2011 Cup of Hope Tea Party to benefit Bay Area Legal Services and victims of domestic violence.  Bay Area Legal Services is a nonprofit, public interest law firm that provides civil legal assistance to low-income residents in the Tampa Bay region.
